nature baby | a summer giveaway

Poet wears the pointelle camisole and twirl skirt

These past few weeks of spring have prompted me to reorganise the tubs of kids clothes at the top of the wardrobe. With summer fast approaching (we're gearing up for a hot long weekend!) I thought it best to go through the baby clothes so Percy can wear his big brother's hand-me-downs. The small collection of boys clothes that I held onto are red and blue and yellow and grey and the majority of them are from Nature Baby. My love affair with the renowned New Zealand brand continues. With my hand on my heart I'm here to tell you that their organic cotton clothes really do stand the test of time (and wear).

I tend to shop at Nature Baby when I'm in need of quality basics for the little ones. While their seasonal collections are always beautiful, I am constantly drawn to the practical cut of their bodysuits; envelope necks, a fabulous sleeve length (so important during summer) and enough coverage over the nappy. Poet lives in their camisoles and tees as they're such brilliant layering pieces.

Nature Baby would like to give a $100 gift voucher to one Practising Simplicity reader. To enter simply leave a comment and tell me what you love most about the brand and what you would buy if you won. The comment that resonates most, wins. Competition closes 8th October at midday. Open to international residents. Good luck!

Comments closed. Congratulations Remaliah ... please email me at jodiclairewilson @ yahoo.com.au and I'll organise your gift voucher x

  2. I love their passion for creating ethical, beautiful items. Lately I have been learning about, and attempting to, make better choices for myself and my family when it comes to where and how products we purchase are produced. There are so many things I would love, but I'd probably buy the short sleeve raglan PJs, the Splash Top, and some of the boy's boxer shorts...my little guy turns two on Monday and I'm about to enter the toilet training stage. eek.

  3. Lovely giveaway! I had never heard of this company, but after checking out their website, I'm sold! Seem like gorgeous, quality items made with love. And perfect timing... My nine month old has literally been crawling holes into the knees of all his pants!

  4. I didn't know this brand but it looks wonderful! If I had to pick something from their store, it would be the "cotton drawstring booties" in natural or navy stripes. Why? Because my little girl is 4 months old and because time flies, so I want to hold on to these first few months and choose an item that can only be worn by the littlest of my children. And because, unlike her older sibling, she never had proper booties (couldn't find the right ones! so she just wore socks), you know, the kind you keep forever and marvel at a few years down the road, wondering how this big child of yours was once this little tiny thing. Nothing like booties to remind you of this precious, foggy time! Sorry if my English is not perfect, I'm French! :)

  5. Both poppy and tully lived in the striped bodysuits throughout the first two years now nearly 3 and 6 years old I'd love a couple of new bodysuits and a wrap for the new baby in the new year. They wash so well and the striped pants are still pj bottoms for tully most nights as they are so comfortable and soft.

  6. To me ethical investing is a responsibility, and also one of the better bits about being an adult. I get to make conscious, positive choices for our family and teach my babies about the impacts they can make in the world through choice. I love clean lines and gorgeous fabrics, if I could grow, spin and weave I would, at this present time that reality alludes me, so I choose the next best thing, and Naturebaby items are just that. Pjs all the way for us, so versatile and practically perfect x

  8. I love that the products are chemical-free as lately so many products I have bought have been recalled due to all the nastys in them. I would by a sleeping bag for little one.

  9. Nurture Baby had me at pure + chemical free. We all want to give our babes what's best and it's heartening to know that these fabrics are safe for their little bodies. If I won, I would buy the Seaside Dress in a size 1, to look forward to our daughter fitting in soon. I would also buy a couple bodysuits, like Percy's. It looks so comfortable for the him and I'd love a couple for our Evey. Thank you!

  10. I have admired Nature Baby products for a while now and, from time to time, have ventured around their site picking a dream list of beautiful items. I love the idea of organic, quality items that are chemical-free, though the prices are outside of our budget, so they're really only "dream lists"! If I won I would buy some clothing for our youngest...something beautiful and practical. I'd have a field day wandering through and making a choice! :)

  13. I love Nature Baby's soft fabrics and fun, eye-catching prints. We live in a world that is unfortunately teeming with environmental toxins, so I take great comfort in wrapping my children in clothing that is healthy and safe for them as well as for our planet. I would be thrilled to choose a few pairs of printed or striped pants and tops for my daughters, were I to win. Thank you for the opportunity!

  14. Nature baby is my favourite brand for my son Falcon (19 months)
The organic fabric is so soft and the prints/designs are so creative and constantly changing!
I have always encouraged Falcon to explore outside in the woods near our house. It's awesome seeing h explore the world that we are often Guilty of taking for granted! Nature baby clothing is perfect for Falcon to move freely as he explores and it's the kind of clothes that momma doesn't try to keep clean, they seem to be made to explore in and I love that they look so natural and comfy! Sometimes wish they made some of their prints in my size! Ha ha
If we won I would probably get a merino hoodie for next winter, then smaller size we have is almost too small and it was awesome to layer under a wooly vest. Thanks!

  18. I really appreciate that you can order any item from this company and know that it will be safe for the child and family. I love owning just a few quality items for each stage; I find I care for things better, appreciate them more, and save myself tons of time with laundry (not to mention space!). I would love to try the blue merino booties - we babywear everyday and as we head into fall my 6 month old's feet are going to need more layers!
    thx

  19. After watching the true cost movie we made a decision to clothe ourselves and our small people more conciously. While we were already very much this way inclined we made a definite switch to only buying ethically/locally/homemade. Nature baby bring the basics beautifully! I love that we can buy clothing, sticking to our values, knowing we are not ripping off the planet or its most vulnerable workers while dressing our children comfortably and stylishly. I would buy both of my girls a seaside dress to wear the heck out of this summer Bonus being that you know they can just be worn and worn and worn, no worries!

  20. I feel a real contentment when I dress my two sons in Nature Baby clothing. The cut and fabric choice match my needs for comfort and movement which at their young age is the top priority. I would buy a Kid Nature Essential Tee and Comfy Sloopy Pants for my 3 year old. Keeping his eczema covered up with long sleeves and pants helps to limit dreaded scratching. Easy pants for potty training are also essential to make pulling and pushing pants an obtainable goal for his little inexperienced hands.

  21. Almost two years later, I can still feel the exquisite softness of the Nature Baby pointelle bodysuit on my cheek as I rub my face over my baby girl, kissing her milk filled belly. That memory is etched into my brain. I am such a tactile person, and while it's also important to me that clothing be aesthetically pleasing, nothing compares to how the fabric feels against delicate skin. This is the stuff that, when you're sorting through newborn clothes years down the track, make you softly scrunch that teeny cotton romper up to your face and breathe in all the memories before placing it in a special box, where you feel certain it will be treasured once again by your own children as they experience those moments with their own babies one day.

  22. I have just been looking through the nature baby catalogue and dreaming of what special items I'd get our second Bub. I was amazed at the softness of the nature baby skirt I bought my daughter. knowing that these clothes are produced with such care and love makes dressing her in them really special. If I won a voucher I'd buy our next Bub some drawstring booties and tiny soft short sleeve bodysuits to suit the feb due date.

  24. I love the integrity of nature baby. It's ethos is infused both in the product and in the way the brand behaves - it feels honest, humble and hard working. The profiles of the real parents who also operate with this level of integrity are fantastic and always so inspiring! If I won id buy a Henley singlet suit for each of my twin boys - one in the jungle brothers print and one in the navy stripe! X

  25. My little boy has had such a tough time with various fabrics making his skin itchy and we found that the Nature Baby bodysuits were so kind to his delicate skin as a newborn. We are due for a much needed update as he has grown up a lot and we have no Nature Baby in his wardrobe at the moment :( I would buy a nice collection of the Essential Tee and Bermuda Shorts to kit him out for Summer!

  26. Such a big fan of nature baby! Beautiful organic cotton, ethical pieces that last the distance. Lovely people to deal with and I find myself looking forward to each seasons release. Secretly wish some of the patterns came in my size too.... This Season I will definitely be buying the shortsleeve pollyanna bodysuit as my daughter will live in it, along with the baby leggings in both new prints!

  27. Oh gosh, Nature Baby is one of my favourite brands ever. To be able to put clothes on my baby that aren't full of nasties, but that do feel and look amazing, is the best thing. My wishlist is for some cute new sleeping clothes, as my little fella is just about out of his.

  28. I love the everything about nature baby. The brand, the fact that it's 100% organic, the quality of each item, the colours, the fabric. I look forward to the new season releases. And absolutely love how cute my babies look in nature baby. Please pick me. Hanging out for the new skirts and dresses for my girl

  31. Having only entered the 'baby world' 10 months ago, I'm just discovering the plethora of baby ware out there. My Nature Baby love began with a newborn gift, followed by multiple more newborn gifts. The obvious cuteness factor and total ease of wear combined with the obvious popularity in the brand I explored their site myself and was blown away by the variety (not just clothing) and was hooked. The extra large muslins have been my 'must-have'; the gro-suits just keep on giving as mentioned already and the prints are just to die for. I will continue to make Nature Baby my go to site for those days when my little Arthur is in need of a basic, a splurge or just a treat. My only issue is that I don't yet have a sister for Arthur whom I can adorn in the beautiful florals and paisley's!

  34. Alright. Now you've done it. I'm over here thinking I need to buy some new little clothes for my littlest one. In the past I've bought cheap bodysuits for my babes, thinking they'll only use them short term anyways... Turns out, after four girls in a row, the staples are used up! I hope to have more little ones in the future, so I've decided I've got to buy nicer things so they'll last! I love that Nature Baby has cute and practical things. The fact that they're natural and earth friendly is a pretty sweet bonus! I'd like to buy a few bodysuits for this baby of mine, sitting here in her poop stained (from who knows which big sister!) pajamas! Eek. I really like the blossom Newton print.

  35. As well as being organic and of beautiful lasting quality, I love the simplicity and timelessness of the designs. Just yesterday I was admiring my daughter in her striped short sleeve body suit, she was wearing it under a pinafore that I myself (and my sisters) wore at the tender age of one. I get such a kick out of seeing her in clothing that I wore when I was little, I can't help but smile when I imagine that in 30ish years, perhaps her own bubba will be scrambling around, looking just as cute in her Nature Baby onesies (which will no doubt still be in nice condition).
We would love the Petal suit and cotton Twirl skirt. Missy is in love with the pollyanna print - she likes to pretend to pick the flowers off it and give them to people.

  36. I love that it washes and wears so well. Most of our Nature Baby clothes have been through 2 boys and have plenty of life left :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love that it's classic and timeless and age appropriate/suitable for children. I don't want my daughter to look older than she actually is and dress her in something that in 20 years we look back on and think - oh my what were we thinking?! I would love to dress her in the Pollyanna print it's beautiful. Any style :)

  38. If we could afford it, Nature Baby would be all that our sweet wee Matilda would wear. Their clothing is of such beautiful quality. We have bought a handful of Nature Baby pieces brand new and really treasure them. I often trawl through local second hand stores for pre loved Nature Baby pieces and get so excited when I happen across any. Even though they're second hand they're still so lovely! I have my eyes on their soft bristled wooden hair brushes, as our daughter has just started to grow some hair. Their sun hats and rompers look amazing too :)

  40. Thank you so much for introducing this wonderful company. I have never heard of them before. I started browisng through their products and could not stop. Everything about their products is beautiful - the cuts, the colour palette and their lovely and also funny patterns. I also love that everything is organic.
I would have a really hard time choosing something if I won, but I would definitely have to go for the world map bodysuit, since my husband is Canadian and I am German - our 4-week-old is a truly international girl :)

  42. Firstly, thank you for such a wonderful blog. Living in a big city (Buenos Aires) means that living simply and so connected to nature is difficult, but your blog, words and beautiful photographs help inspire and keep me sane. Thank you!
I've always supported Nature Baby (buying for friends) since the quality of their clothes is simply beautiful - the prints and designs are just lovely to dress babies in. I am now mother to a 7 month old Argentine/Kiwi baby and, sadly, have found it impossible to find anything nearly as good as Nature Baby over in Argentina - even in design. Sleep sacks are only just new here and it has been impossible to find something suitable for the stifling hot nights we get so the Nature Baby elephant muslin sleeping sack has definitely caught my eye!

  43. We have a son who is about to turn 4 months old, and the very first thing I purchased for him when we found out I was pregnant was a hat and booties from Nature Baby. I lovingly placed them into our hospital bag for him to wear home after his birth, and as it turns out they were the only clothing we packed that he ended up wearing home. His sister was an 8 lb baby and fit into clothing perfectly as she progressed in age - 3 month sizing at 3 months old, 6 month sizing at 6 months old, etc. Our son surprised us not only by arriving a week before his due date; he also weighed 9 lbs 2 oz at birth. All of the newborn clothing we packed didn't fit, but thankfully our relatives were able to run to the store to pick up some basic onesies in his size.

As he's getting a bit older, he is still running large in clothing. That means that most of the pieces that were gifted to us by family have already been outgrown.

We were so thankful that the beautiful hat and booties still fit him at the hospital, and they are currently saved away in a tub for our next little one. The quality is outstanding and will last from child to child, and the timeless design ensures that the pieces can be worn by a little boy or little girl alike. If we were to win the giveaway, we would stock up on the basics that will get our little guy through his growth spurts and then pass the clothing onto our next little one.

I would love to purchase a sleeping bag for summer slumbering. Vanessa

  45. Ohhh yes please!! Nature baby clothes are so scrumptious!! My 1st bubs is due in October and is in the 10th percentile for his weight so he's going to be teeny tiny. I love that nature baby has gorgeous prem designs that I know will be really good against his skin as well as making him look like the scrumptious little boy I know he will be!
Would definitely spend the $100 on some more prem clothes so I know he has enough to get him through until he can fit his newborn clothes

  49. First I love how clean their clothing is. The simple lines and colors are timeless but also beautiful, pieces that transcend fashion and remain the clothes that you hurry to pull off the line, year after year. Second, I love the fact that so many of their pieces are unisex! As mom to boy/girl 4 month old twins there is nothing better than clothing that will look neat and cute on both of my children. It simplifies my life in the best way! Third these pieces are built to last. They cycle through both my current babes and then when they are too small they are put in storage for the next ones, hopefully another set of twins (they are such delicious madness!). If I won i would buy kimono bodysuits and drawstring pants, my current favorite combo for newly moving babies!

  50. To buy good quality clothes that dont end up looking like washed up Pj's after 3 washes is very important in my books. Buy well first up and enjoy for a long time thereafter. I have a few of these items, having gone a bit crazy with baby #1. We are now onto #3 and well, the hand me down factor is wearing thin, but I can't justify buying too many 'new' clothes. My handsome lil man would look absolutely adorable in those gorgeous yellow/ grey cardi's or a cool alligator or Rhino tee. Just gorgeous! Yep, thats would I would buy. No guilt in new clothes if they are gifted right!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love that they have an organic line! Since becoming a mom, this has mattered more and more. I don't want to expose my son to any unnecessary chemicals.

  52. I have only just discovered Nature Baby but I think that this brand would suit our family really well. We have been on a journey of simplifying our lives through minimalism and intentional living. We believe that less is more and to surround ourselves with only what we need or love. When it comes to clothing that means buying quality not quantity. Not buying into trends and fads but buying fewer well made basics and essentials that can be passed down from one daughter to the next. This is the mindset that I want to teach in my children and to look after and cherish what they hold dear. My eldest doesn't have any summer shoes yet and after researching different options I think the Saltwater Sandals would be a great option so this is what I would purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I love Nature Baby! While it is a bit pricier than some of the other kids stuff around there, the quality is amazing - which means it holds up to a real thrashing. My little girl has always worn the stuff and I don't know what I'll do when she grows out of it! Anyway, were I lucky enough to win, I'd be buying her the Seaside Dress and the Twirl Skirt - both perfect for doing lots of big twirls in.

Looking forward to the almond oil and the sunscreen (because we live i a perpetually sunny country!)

  58. I want all the baby clothes. All of them. The striped tops maybe my favorite. I love the classic look and the colors are wonderful. I'm also a little in love with the little safari print that almost gives the look of polka dots. One of the things that strikes me is beautiful and functional their clothes are. Very photographable and very playground friendly. My favorite combination.

  60. With all honesty, we have yet to purchase beautiful pieces such as the ones I was browsing on the nature baby website for our sons (three and a half and one and a half) whose clothes are made up mostly of hand me downs, op shop finds and some basics from target. I always felt it was because we couldn't afford to purchase local/ethical/organic but as I have slowly got the hang of this being a mindful adult thing (blooming late at the ripe age of 29) and becoming responsible for little children, I find that planning is very important. We have started with our groceries, buying only what we need, picking fresh produce from my mother's garden or farmers markets, buying from small businesses, looking out for made in Australia, I am hoping that we can now translate this for all our other purchases, next being our clothes. Nature baby's clothes look beautiful, well made and are organic which is important now that we're trying to use less chemicals in our household (and with little boys with sensitive skin). I adore the cotton sleeping bag, my littlest loves to sleep in his cot but turns and kicks so a cotton sleeping bag will keep him safe and comfortable for the night including the warmer nights as we slowly make our way to summer. It's a good investment as they spend many hours (if you're one of the lucky ones!) in it and as it is made from organic cotton, it would be beautiful against their skin

  61. I hope how soft and lovely their fabric are and that they are a lovely NZ ethical company. I have adopted a simple approach to selecting baby clothes. I'm due in March and have scoured trade me and the op shops for a few lovely pieces my favourites being a grey kimono top and striped booties.
If I could choose I would get a merino sleeping sack for the chilly Wellington winter. x

  62. After my little one was born with a congenital birth deflect that was most likely due to an increase in environmental pollutants; I am so conscious of what goes near his skin. Nature Baby's clothes and products are akin with this ethos.

I would be tempted to add one too many things to the cart — a seaside singlet suit, a stripy splash top, the constellation pyjamas and the whale cushion to name but a few!
