B & Me NYC : a snuggly babywearing giveaway

Babywearing in winter can cause all kinds of clothing dilemmas; jackets and coats that don't quite fit, restrained arms and the time-consuming process of getting dressed in far too many layers.

Enter B & Me NYC; a babywearing coat that simplifies parenting without sacrificing style.

It was mid-winter in NYC when Sarah Clark first discovered the ease of a babywearing coat. "I was getting my two older children ready for school and noticed that my husband hadn't worn his big puffer coat to work. Instead of waking up baby, Booker, to put him in his snowsuit, I put him in the baby carrier and put the puffer coat over both of us and off we went. Wearing one coat together made leaving the apartment effortless and kept us both warm and bundled," she says.

The native New Yorker and mum of three decided then and there to create a simple, practical and stylish coat for parents and babies. She scouted around for a reputable seamstress who created the pattern and made the first prototype. The first samples were made in the city's Garment District and the first collection was created in Minnesota.

Since launching, Sarah has received the most positive feedback from her clientele; busy mums who are always on the go and want to be hands-free, despite the chill factor. For someone who wholeheartedly understands the chaos of parenting small children, she's proud of creating a product that makes the day-to-day that much easier.

..............................................................................................

While Sarah and her family are relishing in the first few days of their NYC summer (apparently they're eating avocado on toast, drinking fresh lemonade and stopping by the icy lady on the way to the park), here in the Southern Hemisphere winter has well and truly arrived.

Sarah is offering one reader a chance to win a B & Me Coat valued at $185USD. To enter, tell us a little bit about what you love about babywearing in winter. The comment that resonates most will win.

This giveaway is open to international readers and the winner will be announced Tuesday 9th June.

Best of luck and thanks so much for supporting the brands that so generously support me.

Giveaway closed. Congratulations Anne Hill! I'll be in touch...

  1. We often go camping in the winter and babywearing allows us to easily explore new areas plus it keeps us both snug!

  2. Winter is a time for snuggles. Nothing is more snuggly than babywearing!
I love that I can help to keep my baby warm by sharing body heat. When I feel her against my chest, she warms my heart from the inside out.

  5. There's something nurturing and sacred about holding your baby close. Woven layers and winter woolies to keep mum and bubs warm. It's lovely getting your body back after childbirth but to then hold and witness the first days of your babies life in the world. There's no reason why winter should impinge on that you just have to stay really warm and this jacket would certainly help do that.

  7. babywearing is about keeping what you love close to your heart. not only that you are keeping this tiny human warm but this tiny human is also warming you up....... it is an extension of the skin to skin when the baby is first born.

  8. The give-away is awesome but I immediately cringed at the picture with the baby facing away from her.

It is sooooo bad to carry babies that young this way: it can majorly impair the healthy development of back and hips. The natural and best position is with round back and spread legs (the German term is "Anhock-Spreizhaltung", I don't know the English one, sorry... ), and by having the baby facing away from you, you always force the back into an unnatural, straightened position.
Also, the baby has no way to shield herself from the outside. Babies so young cannot yet filter outside impressions.

Please please please do NOT carry your babies this way. If they really want to see more, take them on your back so that they can watch the world over your shoulder but are able to shield themselves by turning their head down if it gets too much.

Sorry for the rant and I'm pretty sure you already knew everything I said, but I can't keep still when I see photos like that promoting this really unhealthy carrying position.

  9. I am writing this from my hospital bed with my newborn daughter, Zoe. She was born yesterday, June 1, the first day on Winter and the coldest in five years in Sydneynor so I'm told. I was cozy in the hospital all day long. Perhaps this gorgeous jacket will make our transition into the cold winter's air a little less jarring!

  10. I love wearing my nine week old baby whatever the weather,. In winter I especially love baby wearing because I stay warm and so does my baby. i love having him so close to me and he instantly calms if he's unsettled. Being hands free to help/chase/cuddle my two year old is important too.

  11. Baby wearing is not only the most functional, it's easy, comfortable, reassuring and gives us that closeness we all crave with our littlest ones. My third is due this fall, and with kindergarten drop-off, as well as a 2 1/2 year old I feel I will only survive through baby wearing. It will also be the coldest months of the year! Thank you for the opportunity (in chilly fall/winter Canada!).

  12. I love babywearing any time. I love the special bond it creates with baby. I love that I can do chores and keep up with my toddler and have my baby close by.
Babywearing is especially awesome in winter because it gives me peace of mind. I don't have to worry about whether or not my baby is warm enough or can breathe through all of the layers or even if he is overheating. I KNOW he is snuggly and happy because he's right against my skin!

  13. Babywearing is just a lifesaver anytime of the year but for me it is especially nice in winter because I have arthritis in my hands and wrist. I am currently pregnant with baby number two(my last one) and in both pregnancies I develop trigger fingers and my wrist slip out so carrying babies in my arms is almost impossible even after pregnancy. All this from being what some call double jointed....LOL! Thanks!

  15. I love wearing our little girl as it allows me to keep my hands free to help with her 3 big brothers, 2 of whom have special needs. Wearing her close in any season is great but Winter is particularly great as we keep each other warm :)

  17. As an Alaskan girl who is currently living Canada, I can say most of my baby wearing is done in winter because the majority of months in a year I spend in cold cold weather. I love that it allows me to stay close and keep my little one warm and happy next to my heart beat. I love that it allows me to get outdoors each day with our little ones. I feel like time as a family where we can get out and connect brings the most clarity and happiness to my life! Anything that helps promote that, and gives me extra baby snuggles is a total win

  18. He bundles up close to my chest and I can feel his breathing, his warmpth and his life. I love the feeling of being a 'protector' over a small person... to think that he belongs, that we are the ones responsible and caring for them... such a beautiful feeling.

  19. My first child was born in Sydney in summer and I must admit I didn't wear him as much as I had thought I would - just too hot and sweaty. Now living in chilly Canberra and blessed to be expecting my second baby in just a few weeks, I have a second chance to keep this cherished little one close and both of us warm and snuggly. I have also connected with a lovely group of baby-wearing hill walking mamas and I would love to use this jacket for their outings.

  22. I don't know what I love most about baby wearing in the winter, because I haven't yet. I imagine, though, that feeling a beloved little baby curled against my body will fill me with gratitude. I thought I would be wearing one last winter, but by the time it rolled around, my arms were empty. I'm now expecting a healthy baby girl, and this winter my heart and arms will finally be full.

  23. My second daughter was born in November, a bitter cold and snowy Canadian November. Two weeks later I was headed to the midwives for our first out of the house check-up. I had my two and a half year old with me, who made me proud with her patience during the appointment. When it came time to get the girls in their snowsuits, my eldest decided to throw a showstopping tantrum, the first of many I was to learn. While my midwife held my crying infant, I chased after a screaming toddler, and mothers-to-be watched on, horrified. I left the office flabergasted and overwhelmed by life with two children. We had walked that day and I had decided to wear my newborn in the sling, and have my toddler walk alongside, we couldn't use the stroller because it couldn't plow through the heavy snow on the sidewalks. That walk home was one of the longest and most uncomfortable I've had to this day. Snowy sidewalks, a cranky toddler and a baby slipping and sliding around due to my cumbersome winter jacket, made for a rather tearful afternoon. What I would have given to have a jacket that fit properly and comfortably for baby-wearing in the winter! Navigating the winter months with children is so challenging, and I'm thankful that someone has come up with a practical solution. Hats off!

  24. Baby wearing at any time of the year feels warm and nurturing. I think baby wearing in winter is extra special because even though your hands and feet are freezing, your heart and soul don't know the difference ❤️

  25. What I love about babywearing is the connection to my baby that it gives me. My daughter is eight months old and is increasingly interested in her world around her. I love having her close to me and being able to watch her watching what's going on. She loves a good cuddle and it's extra lovely during these cold months.
