in other places

How are you feeling today? I'm well - energised and motivated for the first time in a good month or so. Thank goodness! Touch wood the sickness that has enveloped our home for the past few weeks is slowly but surely leaving. And whilst it has been raining and wet this week there have been glimmers of spring - warm sun, wild freesias and longer days. There's a lot to look forward to!

We're hoping the rain clears in time for a market jaunt this weekend. I've got lots of veggies that need attention so I'm thinking of roasting some and turning the rest into soup. I found myself throwing leek, pumpkin, broccoli and cauliflower into a pot the other day and with a bit of vegie stock, garlic, salt and pepper it ended up being completely delicious (and so creamy, once blended).

oh goodness! The sweetest, handmade creatures I have ever seen (including a sloth!) - oneofakind
in this shiny, pinterest world it was refreshing to read this article - give me gratitude any day.
I highly recommend these reusable tea/coffee cups for a Father's Day gift (Daniel uses his every day).
these measuring spoons - the perfect keepsake gift for a little baker.
I love to read "five favourite things" over at House of Humble

why kids are better off without homework - I wholeheartedly agree.

Have a wonderful weekend...

  2. I've just bought the coffee cup for K (on behalf of Fox for father's day). He's also getting some 'God Jocks' from Sassy - have you seen them? - they're a bit of fun…Really enjoy your Friday collections.
Something I read/looked at that stayed with me for a while was this tour of the small but perfectly formed Melbourne apartment. We live in a small 'townhouse' - and part of a community architecturally designed in the 1970s - so I'm always intrigued by other stories of living with less.
Think it was posted last week but I've come back to admit it many times: http://thedesignfiles.net/2014/08/melbourne-home-alex-kennedy/

    1. Oh wow, thanks so much for sharing that link. What an inspiring space! Although I'm not sure my family will fit in my parent's garage ;)

  3. I agree with the homework article 100%. The only homework I've ever seen value in is research assignments because the kids get to learn a little or a lot about something they are actually interested in. Also I love reading with my kids at night and listening to them read- it's one of the few things that we ALL genuinely love. Home works IS boring, stressful and pointless, and it can't stand the way teachers think it is so damn important. The one of my kids who did the least homework is by far the best at reading and maths anyway... Thanks for that link Jodi x

  4. PS that was a typo: I don't really think that "home works is boring" is a proper sentence ;-)

    1. haha! Che's teacher is incredibly experience, has taught in private, public and international schools and he wholeheartedly believes that homework is a waste of time. "Encourage your children to read at night, now and again encourage them to revise their spelling words but they shouldn't be spending more than 20 minutes on it and the moment it becomes stressful or unenjoyable just put it away. I don't want the kids to learn to hate school because of homework," - his words at the start of the year. As you can imagine I was over the moon! x

  5. Love the "Give Me Gratitude or Give Me Debt" article. It's easy in our increasingly visual-centric world to elevate style, trends, and other forms of newer, better, perfect, at the expense of contentment, gratitude, and more meaningful priorities and uses for our time and money. This article reminds me that I should consider simplicity as something other than a style to pursue--rather as a lifestyle of contentment and a recognition of what's meaningful in life.
