shades of yellow and grey
I have a penchant for bed linen; I'm completely unashamed of my love for soft sheets and beautiful blankets. I've always adored the look of a messy white bed, the crumpled and ruffled effect is rather endearing, don't you think?
As we venture into summer I have swapped the white for sunshine yellow and grey, happy floral and ticking stripe, bohemian and classic. It's a welcome change, particularly for Daniel who believes there can sometimes be "too much white" (there can never be too much white).
For Che's bed I have always chosen stripes or spots in blues and reds. But his room can be a little dark so his new map cushion and golden stripes add warmth and light. Apparently it's the perfect choice for someone going of to school next year. "It's really cool," he says.
Yesterday I admired the linen on the line as it billowed and dried. Today I have a good incentive to actually make the beds. Which begs the question: do you make the bed?
Adairs were ever so generous in gifting me new linen (the perfect early Christmas present). Thank you! I chose Aura Peony Pillowcases, Aura Ticking Stripe Sheet Set, Bamboo Cotton Sheet Set (in white, of course) and Home Republic Florida Stripe Set.

Good choices... It all looks lovely and very summer. Love yellow xx
ReplyDeleteThis would go so well with the light grey we're painting our bedroom soon. I must have the yellow peony linen maybe that will have to be my Christmas pressie to myself!
ReplyDeleteAh lovely linen...such a weakness. We too have the "too much white" conversation in our little home but pops of colour seem to appease. I'm a bed maker...nothing quite beats that crisp sheet feel when you get into bed at night. It always feels so indulgent and a wee bit naughty to spend money on bed linen but I guess we spend half our lives in bed. Hope your day is a bright and happy one.

I love the ticking.
ReplyDeleteStrangely we don't own any white sheets. Just lots of colours!
I do all white on my bed. And yes I make my bed. The look of a beautifully made bed amidst the chaos of a toddler trampled house gives me a brief moment of satisfaction throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of Daniel in the image of Che.
ReplyDeleteso do i!
DeleteI too believe there can never be too much white! Which is why our bedding is all white. It reminds me of sleeping on a cloud. What could be better than that, right?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I do make the bed every single morning. Sounds crazy but, my obsession with order always wins.
And, I think your choice to switch things up a bit with grey and yellow is fantastic choice. It gives a warm and welcoming feeling : )
I have two new white bamboo cotton sheets waiting to go on my bed this afternoon - a little congratulations, you made it through the week, to myself. :-)
ReplyDeletePS. Love the two little hands picture. made me smile!
Deletepeek-a-boo is her very favourite game x
DeleteLooks beautiful Jodi! I've also just done our little nursery nook in yellow & grey and love it! And how fortunate are you to be gifted the gorgeous linen. Mel x
ReplyDeleteYellow and grey is perfect for a nursery! And yes, I'm very lucky indeed x
DeleteI also absolutely LOVE bed linen. I just moved flats into a gorgeous, light room with a mantlepiece and bought a lovely striped duvet cover to celebrate! (Although I'm told you don't use the term 'duvet' in Australia!) I've always worried that stripes are too boyish, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only woman obsessed with them.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this post, all I want to do is buy beautiful, beautiful things for my room. Jodi, our tastes in home decor are very similar. You are so inspiring! x
You made the perfect choice for sure! Yes, I share your love of linen and my obsession got a little out of control when I was working for Bed Bath n Table a few years back. My dream life would include sun dried sheets on the bed everyday if I didn't have to labour for it hahaha. Making the bed? Yes, the beds are made daily but my boys 'make' their own (ok I make it for them but they are there doing their part). But I must admit, on the weekends, if the bed didn't get made before midday, I say leave it, so that it remains inviting all day ;-) Yellow is such a happy colour. xxx
ReplyDeleteLovely colours! Looks beautiful for spring/summer!
ReplyDeleteIs that Roald Dahl Che is reading? Can he read on his own already?!
Those are still some of my favourite stories :)
No, he's not reading on his own, just looking at the pictures. He was given the Roald Dahl box set (every title!) for his birthday. Daniel just finished reading "James & The Giant Peach" for the third time and now we're on to "The Twits". Some of my favourites too x
DeleteThat feather pillow... oh my! I have the pefect room for that one! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love Grey and Yellow. New linen is always such a joy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sheets. :) xx
a beautiful palette of colours. i love the map cushion. will be getting my hands on one of those. xo
ReplyDeleteOh bed linen is one of my favourite things too. Nothing like freshly laundered bed linen. And yes, I always make the bed. It makes the room look a little tidier no matter how many clothes and books and toys are scattered across the floor. Beautiful colour choices Jodi. Grey and yellow...such a good combination xx
ReplyDeleteI make the bed everyday. Love the look of a made bed. I use to have all white linen, but after I started living with Justin I swapped to chocolate sheets. Now I am having lustful thoughts over your fresh sunny linen.

Yep, I make the bed. Being a mama who has a job from home I feel as though a clean house makes for a more productive day on both the Anouk raising front and the working front! My favourite linen colours are earthy tones... white, browns, some faded blues and greens and greys of all shades.
ReplyDeleteYour new linen looks lovely. :)
Beautiful colour combination, I have a love of bedding too. Especially linen, it's a nightmare to iron, but when it's on.. just perfect x
ReplyDeleteooh, gorgeous bed linen, I'm jealous! I always make my bed because it's an easy task, then if the day gets crazy & I don't get much else done, at least I feel like I've achieved something!
ReplyDeleteI love yellow and grey also. I too did the nursery those colours, it's perfect for a little boy and for a Mamma who didnt want to do blue again :)
ReplyDeleteWe're doing the yellow, grey and white scheme in the kitchen. Yellow all around the sink - to make washing the dishes not quite so daunting. Grey stripes on the floors - to hide the dirt. White every where else - for a fresh crisp cooking canvas, with a little sneaky flash of yellow again inside the pantry. I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteI air my beds in the morning abd make them in the arvo. Just like my mum, im well trained. I love duck egg blue everything on our bed and the girl has some red with that. But yellow and grey could turn my head x
ReplyDeleteThat sunshine yellow is so perfect coming into summer. Very glad to have found your lovely inspiring blog! xx

Oooh - I have such a massive weakness for linen...my obsession has been limited somewhat by my husband ("MORE TOWELS?? Are you serious?!") but we are going to need new sheets soon. The window shopping is the best though, I find it hard to choose! I am shocking at making the bed...I tend to just pull it up, as I play with the baby on it at various times during the day :)
ReplyDeleteMuch love,
Audrey
I make the beds most days, when i do, my days seem so much smoother for some reason!
ReplyDeletei love bed linen too but its a treat to get new things. lucky you...i love aura!
ReplyDeletealso, you can NEVER have too much white! EVER!!!!
I have a 4 month old, I always made the bed before and I try so hard to keep doing it each day now, even if it is right before I hop back in at night. The dishes can be unwashed, the couch can be a jumble of unfolded washing and the days toys and accoutrements but a made bed can make me sigh with relief.. I love whites but with a mish mash of pillow case prints. And sun dried - not something I enjoy often now as we have relocated to Pittsburgh PA for a spell and the days are grey (not the Melbourne didn't present some challenges!) Thank you for your blog x
ReplyDeleteLovely Jodi, I love the fresh, cottage-like, boho look of all the lovely colours & linens. Beautiful photos too!
ReplyDeleteOh I do love your choices Jodi, they are perfect. I too am rather partial to bed linen and making the bed each morning is a must..I refuse to climb into a wrinkled, unmade bed. Our older children however don't see the point of making their beds when it only gets messy again come bed time :)
ReplyDeleteAnd no, there can never be enough white though a yellow/grey combo is lovely too.
x
Love yellow and greys. The stripes with the floral is such a fun and fresh look. And Roald Dahl books are the best are'nt they?
ReplyDeleteI just love the colour combination of grey and yellow.
ReplyDeleteWe keep our bed all whites and creams... a layered mess of white sheets and a duvet, a cream quilt over the top and a cream and beige block printed quilt layered on that. It starts out beautiful and pristine after I launder the sheets for the week... all crisp and perfectly arranged. And by the time the end of the week comes back 'round it has become the most inviting heap of fabric, pillows strewn about and blankets extra soft. I find myself gravitating toward the bedroom so much toward the end of the week when everything has tugged loose enough to wrap around me/us in a nice cocoon. We have a solid mahogany farmhouse canopy bed that a family member so graciously gave to us and I feel the whites and creams look so wonderful against the dark wood. I like to keep our house a soothing collection of clutter, and that's especially so in our bedroom. I just want white linens everywhere, a rich dark brown bed, muted floor pillows, layered rugs, and a fresh breeze and sunlight. Stacks of books. And little else. Just zen piles of textiles and written word.
ReplyDeleteI love ticking stripe! Kyle and I are planning to go on a big camping trip this spring and I'm going to sew a little roll up ticking stripe mattress inspired by this one, made just a bit larger than a twin size:
http://www.shopterrain.com/product/ticking-stripe-roll-up-bed-blue
Our local fabric store only has a fabric that's about twelve inches wide so I've got to do some poking around on the Internet to find one wide enough to span the width of the mattress. I'm especially excited about this little project. I'd love to sew a canvas tent for us too, but I don't want to be overly-ambitious just yet.
Love the new mix on your beds. Just lovely. I really like that little pillow with the feathers, by the way. And I'm glad to have a new website to scour for new things to collect.
My best,
Jo Farmer
Oh me, me too! Though I'm always afraid I'm going to spill my coffee on the white, it's totally worth it. Love your space. So creative, clean and lovely.
ReplyDeletexoxo, hm
Love love love it Jodi! Is it ok if I copy? xo
ReplyDelete"There can never be too much white." Couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteEven our Angus knows that white is mummy's favourite colour...
Ronnie xo
I like to make my bed but never make the 5 year olds bed. I like vintage sheets in floral for her bed but she prefers the pink fairy ones grandma bought. I like white on my bed. I love the yellow stripe.
ReplyDeleteoh am in IN LOVE with those greys and yellows. You 'might' have just encouraged me to make a trip to Adairs and take a break from all my white. X
ReplyDeleteI love your choice of linen. I have always gravitated towards white sheets but I mix it up with color accents every now and then. I definitely make the bed. I would make the bed just so I can crawl into a made bed 30 minutes later :)
ReplyDeleteYellow and grey is such a lovely colour combination. I especially love the linen on Che's bed. Perfect for a young boy without being 'typically boyish' :)
