spring, where are you?

Winter has returned with a sharp, cold wind; there's snow on the mountains and the southerly is icy.

So, here I am today, with my scarf and slippers and ginger tea, watching the gums violently sway right outside my window, wondering where oh where has spring disappeared to. With low grey skies and cold fingers I'm feeling slightly unmotivated. Poet is sleeping in the big, warm bed and I'm tempted to join her and nap all afternoon.

I'm planning a big pot of vegetable soup for later on; leeks and corn and broccoli too. Tonight I'll light my beeswax candles and cuddle under a blanket with my new book and a cup of tea (the perfect way to use the last sliver of just-picked-from-the-tree lemons).

Wishing you a warm, nourishing weekend. What tea will you be drinking?

  3. I'm in San Francisco, and we finally got fall today after a long Indian summer. I've made some stuffed zucchini with the last of the harvest and made some baked apples- mainly to heat up the apartment. You've inspired me to pour some water over ginger and lemon... Odd to think that on the other side of the world, we're seeking the same warmth.

  4. It's winter-chilly here too. So strange, this weather. Yesterday I was reminiscing with K that this time a year ago, it was a gently warm spring day when Saskia was born...Would love to know if there are any pearls of wisdom in that book (saw it on another website recently too)...x
ps. I'll be drinking earl grey leaves & homemade chai. leaf tea brewed in a pot is now one of those things i am grateful to have the time/energy to make now - in the first few months it was tea bags, tea bags or tea bags!

  5. I'm drinking Lapsang Souchong(i think thats how you spell it), its a lovely smokey tea perfect for autumn. Its my favorite because it smells like autumn in New England, the leaves burning mixed with the cool crisp air, so lovely! Autumn anywhere else makes me a little homesick... so here on the west coast in our Seaside town on a cool, rainy, perfectly autumnal day, i am enjoying a taste of home while loving a new sort of autumn, not the vibrant warm reds, bright golden yellows, or burt oranges of the east, but the steely greys, ashy browns, and sages and blues that i am learning to love.

  6. We will certainly appreciate Spring even more when she finally arrives. As soon as the jug boils, I will be enjoying a lemon herbal tea.

  7. Spring has definitely vanished here. It's blowing a gale outside and the sky is gushing down with rain. It's so easy to appreciate this weather when you're able to stay by a warm fire and cuddle up with a little one. Strange to think just last week was beach weather. Xx

  8. It was freezing here yesterday. We had snow in the hills, which is unheard of for Adelaide. Thankfully there are blue skies today and the weekend promises to be very springy. This weekend I expect I'll be drinking more of the African Rooibos tea. It's my favourite at the moment.
I wish you a happy weekend and hope some warmth heads your way very soon.

I still can't decide which one I like the best!
It is cold and windy in Brisbane today and I am already looking forward to this evening...knowing Toddler C is snug in his bed, my pjs, a cup of tea and a book.

  11. The wind is blowing ferociously here, it's more like an autumn day than a day of spring but it is good for drying the line full of washing that I have which is nice:) Today I've had some white tea and a chai tea, I'm sure there will many more cups today.

  12. Earl grey tea for me. 22 degrees here today but further south they are predicting snow - odd. I miss lighting the fire and snuggling up with the kiddies on the couch. Lovely photos, tippy toes.....................

  16. I recently had the pleasure to drink lemon verbena tea made with leaves straight from an organic garden snd it was so wonderful I am inspired to grow some. I haven't had much luck finding Clipper Teas in Sydney yet. Here's to simple pleasures on chilly days ...

  18. Its been getting really chilly over here in Vancouver BC the last couple of days too and finally the rain broke through last night. I don't mind it though, Fall is my favorite time of year and I welcome it with open arms to wear layers and woolen things, whilst knitting up a storm and cozying up under quilts.
For tea I just discovered an amazing Pumpkin Chai! Its a lovely deep black tea that even has little pumpkin shapes in it :) Happy Fall!

  19. I'll be bypassing the tea and heading straight for the hot chocolate as the rain sets in this weekend. Very indulgent, but perfect for weekend snuggles. And yes, go nap. That big bed sounds so lovely. Especially when you can share it with such a cutie pie xx

  20. My husband and I are on a little vacation in a small mountain village not too far from where we live... Autumn's beginning is gloriously vibrant right now. There will be lots of hot cocoa to drink by the fire this weekend. We don't usually keep that sort of thing around the house, and so we bought some specially indulgent cocoa powder and marshmallows from our natural food co-op to make it... a special vacation treat! We do carry a stash of herbal teas in my bag in case of a sore throat, the sniffles, or otherwise and Kyle picked up a special bag of chai roobios from a little tea shop nearby that has walls lined with hand-filled baggies and old kettles. It will be a very special week indeed. I hope your blustry weather comes up this way and keeps our retreat extra cozy, and you get your warmer spring temperatures back. Spring can be such a tease, that one.

    My best,
    Jo Farmer
