"A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014."
Poet: furrowed brow, quizzical eyes, pouty lips and tapping fingers on the top of her walking stick.
I had three portraits to choose from this week (all taken by Wednesday!) but this one stole my heart for it's moodiness, connection and soft light (it was gloomy and raining). Poet's sweet linen top is by
une belle époque - timeless, quality pieces in the best shades of olive, grey and tea-stained ivory; all designed by
Dee (who takes gorgeous portraits of her daughters Limi and Claya every week).
This project has encouraged many of you to visit Practising Simplicity for the first time in the past month or so. I wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you here - lovely to "meet" you. If you have a specific question for me, about blogging or photography or writing or.... please go ahead and ask it in the comments. I'll pop in a few times over the next few days to answer your queries.

This week I loved the three portraits taken by
Jane Mabel, particularly the distance between photographer and subject in each shot. I tend to take lots of close-ups; I need to remember to stand back sometimes / Oh
Daisy; every week your mama takes the most beautiful captures of you /
outside and inside - opposite perspectives and the power of a hand /
The Little Baker - amazing! / and
Leo, post-bath wrapped in a towel, dusk + lamp light - so good.

ReplyDeleteJodi, I'd love to know your thoughts on photo-editing. I'm a prolific photo-taker but my stumbling block is editing. I feel as though I'd like to be editing my images knowledgeably and with true direction, rather than just tweaking until I 'think' it looks right. I guess my question would be, where should I start? I have CS5 and Lightroom 3 waiting to be dominated :)
