fabrik : a spring/summer collection giveaway

Fabrik is a celebration of the feminine; a collection of clothes, linen and toys with a distinct European aesthetic.

Designer Sarah Hardie created Fabrik soon after she became a mother. Her daughter, Jemima, inspired a baby and children's collection featuring hand-embroidery, vintage fabric and muted tones. Since then the brand has grown to include beautiful linen and a timeless range of women's clothes; classic with a refined bohemian edge. I particularly love the Karina dress, Ginger skirt, Dandelion pants and basic tank

The winner of this giveaway will receive a $100 Fabrik gift voucher.

  1. Oh, such beautiful clothes - love the Ruffle Dress and the Soiree Dress Ink especially...

There is a vintage, green tank top in my wardrobe. It once belonged to my mother, and I love the picture of her wearing it back in the seventies with short, black hair. There is another picture of me as a small child in a coastal village in Greece, wearing it as a dress complete with oversized straw hat. And I still wear it today: it is not really my color anymore, it is worn thin, but it feels smooth against my skin - kind of like a hug...

  2. Lovely giveaway.
My favourite piece of vintage summer clothing is a crimson patterned sarong that I bought at some markets when I was fourteen. Twenty-years on, it is well-worn, a little torn, re-stitched in parts but still my favourite, throw-on-to-go-to-the-beach piece.

  4. Ooops, I got caught up in the moment and forgot to tell a story...my favourite piece of vintage summer clothing is a skirt I found in an opshop a few years ago, it's the most worn item of summer clothing I own! I wear it as a strapless dress and it takes me to the beach, the pool, the park, to lounging at home. It saw me comfortably though some very hot days during my pregnancy last summer too and I always felt pretty and feminine in it.

  5. I have a lovely little vintage dress that I'm sure I will wear till my last day. It is a simple floral dress that works for most occasions. Something about it makes me feel feminine and pretty.

  6. My favorite vintage thrift item is a short cut button up vest - I'm an architect, and the way that this vest is cut is something that teases my eye every time I wear it or see it in my closet. I hope it lasts as long as possible, it's a very unique find!

  7. I found this gorgeous skirt in Ireland - long, red with sprays of little blue and yellow flowers - it was what i'd been searching for, and it fitted like a glove! I wore it non-stop through that Irish summer, and at several points when we (my boyfriend and I) were walking through fields, bumble bees would stop on my skirt, thinking it was a glorious patch of flowers :)

  8. My favorite piece of vintage summer clothing is a T-shirt. It was mine as a child, and somehow still fits. It is so worn it is almost shear in spots, but the fabric has become unbelieveably soft. It has Garfield and Odie on it. I remember my brother had it before I, and I specifically remember him wearing it one night when we were both young and sick and spent the night awake together.

  9. Once upon a time, when I was about 14, I found a pair of levi denim short shorts in an op shop in the seaside town where my grandparents lived. My mum berated me for them being too short but I paid for them with my own money (probably 50c or so) and damn it, they were going to be mine regardless of her thoughts. Over 20 years later, and they're still in my wardrobe. And I am very proud to admit, they still fit. Not at the moment, because of my prego belly, and even without it, they're a bit tight, but still, I can get away with them! Every change of season, I go through my clothes and do a sort and a toss and every year I pick them up and wonder if it's time to let them go. But they always make it through the cull! We've been through a lot together, those shorts and I....

  10. My favourite piece of vintage summer clothing feels like a bit of a cheat, but here's the story... Last year I was the lucky recipient of a bagfull of vintage pillowcases (large European size ones, probably 30-40 years old). I've recently been stretching my sewing muscles and took to the pillowcases with a stick unpicker! I turned a sunshine yellow pillowcase into a fitted shirt and a swirly skirt (don't worry, I won't wear them together ;-). I feel instantly brighter when wearing either one!

A very generous giveaway, Fabrik has some beautiful pieces!

  11. My fave piece is a hand-me-down from a friend - a maxi skirt with a floral design. It has a wide, soft waistband and lace detail on the hem. I always get comments when I wear it - it isn't my usual style so I always feel special putting it on...xox

  12. My favorite piece of vintage clothing is a hot pink and lime green floral print cotton bathing suit that belonged to my grandmother. It's adorable cut, with short balloon shorts and a sweetheart neckline. It also has a thin hot pink belt that ties around the waist. My grandma was a very fashionable lady (she had some great original safari-wear from Abercrombie and Fitch when it was travel-esq clothing for journying). I love that swimsuit because it is in excellent condition and reminds me of what a classy lady my Grandma was every time I wear it:) I often wear it as a romper, and was in fact wearing it in some photos that made it onto a feature post for A Beautiful Mess this summer:) It was dream come true and I was ecstatic that the bathing suit-gone-romper made such an appearance. I think my grandma would have gotten a kick out of it as well. XO

  13. A floral denim shirt with a blue denim collar is my favorite vintage find this summer. I also happened to thrift an NSYNC cd on the same day. I am a validated 1990s kid.

  14. Mine is a tunic made from vintage tablecloths. It is green and white with embroidered autumn leaves around the top and it is handmade by a local boutique store called Frank and Dolly's. It is also great for showing off my baby bump!

  16. A dress the colour of a cobalt sky adorned with vintage planes. A dress that represents so much. The dress I made a leap of faith in. The dress I flew across the world in to see if things may work out with a guy I'd just met. The dress I fell in love with my husband on the Cornish coast. A dress that no longer fits after years that have passed which brought two beautiful babes, two bundles of blue. A dress, just a summer dress but one that means so much.

  17. I have a vintage sundress that makes my heart sing when I wear it. I found it buried deep in a box of clothes at a community car boot sale. I remember the moment. A new mama, in a very new relationship (oops!), I had taken some much needed me-time to walk and rummage, breath a little. I remember the song that was playing as I walked. It talked of the life you once lived still being there, woven into part of you, that nothing you have lived is lost but takes a new life in today. I remember feeling so touched by those words (new mama'hood does have a way of colouring everything for a while) when I glimpsed the turquoise blue of the dress peeping out of a box. That dress. It fitted me perfectly, makes me smile, looks happy and wearing it I am reminded of that song, that moment.

  18. oh goodie! I have a new favourite vintage find! after weeks of being tired and exhausted and grumpy with winter tights and boots I discovered a vintage skirt. i had escaped the home kid-free and was mooching with a very large coffee at the local markets and on the very last rack, there it was, a balloon style knee-length purple floral skirt, fitted perfectly. no tights required! it was the cathartic purchase i needed to head home without the 'grumpies' xx

  19. My favourite vintage summer dress is a hand-me-down from my Lisbon-grandma. She looked scrumptious wearing it in the 50's and when I have it on I feel twice as fabulous than in anything else (even though it's barely hold together by a safety pin).

  20. I have this lovely vintage green floral dress that I bought from an op shop around 8 years ago. It was from memory $6. I am absolutely so in love with it. It had long sleeves which my mum and I made into short sleeves and we took it up a bit. I wear it during the summer with a belt, sandals and a floppy hat and in the winter a cardigan, tights and boots. It makes me feel very happy, and I love to think about its life before I found it.

  21. Some time ago, I purchased a 1950s "swing skirt," handsewn in periwinkle floral fabric. My mother calls it my "Sound of Music skirt." I found it in a slightly bizarre vintage clothing booth where they were playing obscenely loud Spanish music. Smitten (and I found a blouse to pair with it), I took it home even though the person who created it had failed to put a side clasp at the waist. A safety pin does the trick. The first time I wore the skirt was at a family party; that evening I decided I absolutely was not into a certain fellow who I thought liked me. Three months later I wore the skirt at another family party and that evening kissed the very same fellow. We're together still.

  22. I really love the ginger skirt too, its beautiful. also a story:
The wall and floor in the photo are the splitting image of what the wall and floor of my previous house looked like.... Before my 2 year old (at the time, he is now four, I honestly don't know how he survived that long) sharpied the entire thing. And the carpet in the lounge. And the baby jail, coffee table and little sister. #goodtimes.

  23. My favorite piece of summer clothing was inherited from a close friend who lost a long, hard battle with breast cancer. It is a lovely, soft, white pullover sweater, loosely crocheted by her mother before she left for college. I had admired it for years, as it was one of her favorites too. While her memory will live on forever, having something tangible to remember her by means the world. Every time I find myself missing her I can pull it on and feel her energy surrounding me.

  25. My favourite vintage piece is one I never wear. My Mum's wedding dress - a 70's cream and pink paisley mini! All out for the registry office, apparently. Wore it once when I was 16......hasn't fitted since.

  26. Oh so lovely. I LOVE the dandelion pants. I'm not really a vintage kind of girl, but I would say my favourite piece is my dads wedding suit, worn by my husband to our wedding. Special memories x

  27. (I love your story Lucy W!)

a creamy organic cotton dress gifted by the first woman I adopted as my road Mama years ago, soft to my knees bare and breathless by memories of movement; through the gypsy summer south sleeping on beaches and amongst trees, through hitch-hiking alone up and down the coast, through bike tours and co-op homes and knowing my soul's purpose as a midwife, through death and rebirth, holy and timeworn--stained, stitched, patched, re-purposed until offered as material for prayer flags for a yurt in the hills of California, loved-on so hard, it took on new life

  28. One of my first and favorite vintage pieces is a 1970's smock blouse. I bought it for $5 as a teenager in the 90's at a music festival in Melbourne, right there and then I put it on... I still have it today albeit with a few extra holes. Maybe all I have done is add an extra memory to an item of clothing that had a life long before me. x

  29. I have a beautiful strapless summer dress made by my Mum circa 1970s. Its peacock blue and the most lovely (and lets be honest, hippy) print over the bottom half. I drag it out every year and look longingly at it, wondering if I'm brave enough to wear it outside the house. It's perfection, but just different to my usual look. But i will never be able to part with it! I love the thought of my mum wearing it in her 20s, just married & being so chic & casual - maybe weekend drinks with friends? a Sunday breakfast?

  30. How wonderful! My favourite piece of vintage summer clothing is nothing but a memory now. When I was young mum often bought us clothes from the oppy. Usually they were ill fitting, quite daggy (it was the 80's) and because I'm short, to long by far. One day while shopping at the local oppy I got a new dress. It was beautiful. A white number with colour hearts all over it, big front pockets with gorgeous heart buttons. Sigh. I loved that dress and plan to recreate it this summer by sewing one with very similar vintage fabric.

  31. Lovely giveaway!

My favorite vintage summer pants sadly broke beyond repair this summer (we have autumn in Sweden now). They where made in thin cotton fabric in a sort of camouflage pattern in white/gray/brown - perfect, because now matter how many dirty, sticky childrens hands that pulled the pants you could never tell they where stained! :-)

  32. My favorite vintage piece is a lovely purple knit sweater with a floral embroidery around the neckline. It is clearly a piece from the late 60s, but the deep purple works in today's world. This shirt was my mother's in grade 10. We have a school photograph of her wearing this sweater with her hair ironed straight (no hair irons then)
    and cat eye-rimmed glasses!

  34. I would have to say that my favorite vintage piece is a white, button-down, dress with small black flowers that my grandma made for my mama when she was a teen. Every time my grandma sees me in it, which is often, she laughs and says that I remind her of her daughter. She says that back then they had to make their own clothes out of necessity. I love how such a small piece of cloth carries so many memories and stories. It's a tad bit see through and one of the buttons is missing but I plan on keeping it and passing it on to my own daughter so that she can remember her grandma and great grandma in much the same way.

By the way, I love the goddess dress and the dyed tank top! Great shop!

  35. Is 70's vintage enough these days?... I have a delicate hand-knitted cotton and silk cardigan in the bright purples, magentas and puce colours of that time. Very Annie Lennox I believe!!!

  36. A faded blue and white striped sun dress with a halter neck and a full skirt that bears the nostalgia of many years of halcyon summers, mine and those of the women I never knew who wore it before me. I like to think that they too ran along the hot summer sand, ate fresh raspberries and drank sweet lemonade whilst wearing it and twirled in it at dusk. One day I hope my two daughters will claim it as their own and create a new generation of magic and memories in it.

  38. My grandmother was married in a beautiful lace wedding dress. When my mother was married, she unstitched the lace collar from the dress and sewed it onto her own. I did the same for my more modern dress and I hope to pass this family heirloom on to my daughters, if they eventually get married. The lace is somewhat yellowed and faded, but the pattern is so very beautiful.

  39. My cream chiffon 1950's dress that I wore to our Vancouver wedding. I bought it at my favourite Sydney vintage shop, Mint Condition, accessorised with elbow length gloves and a fur capelet. The dress is so perfectly 1950's with a sweetheart neck, cinched waist and full skirt. And the best part? It's covered in tiny gold hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds! Every time I see it hanging in my closet I remember the fun we had celebrating our marriage with our Canadian friends and family. Of course, I'm holding on to it for Clementine. Maybe she can wear it to her prom? ;)

  43. Oh, what a magical giveaway, and what beautiful pieces i would be honored to wear ~

With a beautiful sigh, I can easily answer what my favorite piece of vintage is, as even the very thought of it makes me feel so deeply alive. It is a large cerulean blue scarf with a mosaic of red and pink roses scattered like tiny diamonds across the front and back. The colors are so deeply rich and vivid, you would think it was steeped for years in its color. I picked it up for a few dollars, and stowed it away for a day when I could wrap my 'one-day dream baby' up in it. Well, I know have this dream baby, a four-month old baby boy named Augustus ~ and we turn to this scarf daily to wrap him in its warmth, cradling him with our soulful love. The roses bring out the soft blush in his cheeks and the blue brings out the depth of his ocean-blue eyes. This scarf was just a toss-away for someone, but to us, it is the piece we wrap our beautiful baby boy in each and every day, reminding us just how delicate life will always be.

(to see the scarf I speak of, you can view my instagram account ~ @bonjourmoon )

Deep and Soulful Blessings, Jodi. xo

  44. Mine would have to be a brown leather saddle bag passed down to me from my Aunt. My mum found it in her old bedroom when cleaning out my grandma's house, and brought it home to me. It is such a fun addition to a pretty Summer dress and I just love knowing that my Aunt used and loved it when she was my age! Best of all, inside I found she had stitched her name - Charlotte - and as I was named after her the bag is already labelled for me :)

  45. A tie dye shift dress from my mum that she bought from the markets when I was a tot and that I'd helped pick out! Apparently I loved the colours so much I wouldn't let it go and for a while it was my 'blankie'. Who would've thought that I'd wear it now after 20 or so years! It's a little short on me but it has a gorgeous relaxed fit and is made of cotton so it's perfect for hot summer days. Your skirt's beautiful btw! x
