"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."
Che: In his own beautiful, light-flared world. Poet: She stopped to smell the roses. Daniel and I spent just over 24 hours away from the kids this week. We drove to the city without the need to negotiate or bribe, we went out to dinner at a lovely restaurant and enjoyed a meal that we didn't have to share, we skipped bathtime, bedtime stories and the inevitable q&a time that comes right before sleep. And we realised that regardless of the perks, we would have preferred to be home, in bed, with two little people snuggled between us.
Twins Maggie and Elisabeth were born at 26 weeks gestation and after months in NICU they are now home in "the hut" - a cottage in Tasmania that overlooks an abundant garden and vast field. It warms my heart to finally see these strong, brave and beautiful girls' faces amidst all the other portraits / I only know Sunny and Scout from their mama's blog but I'd say these portraits capture their personalities perfectly / Outside - finally! Jane Mabel captures her children as the seasons shift / Dipping her toes in the spring water - little Penny is delightful / and rainbow children - sigh.
Thank you Jodi, this is such a lovely way to create memories regularly and make new connections with other mothers. Your days away together sound lovely. Already the concept of time apart from Maggie & Elisabeth seems foreign. Especially after leaving them each day in hospital. Still warm enough for paddling in NSW then? Brrr too cold here. Poet is gorgeous - I can't wait for our girls to help in our garden. Xx
They look vintage, don't they?! - mostly because of the scuff marks that 'christened' them on the very first day they were worn. I bought them from a French website and closed my eyes when I pressed 'buy'. Let's just say that she will wear them every.single.day until she grows out of them. Future siblings, boys or girls, will wear them too. Claire from One Claire Day pointed me in their direction - like a true stylist, her taste is exquisite x
The such beautiful photos, Jodi. The light is stunning with Che and Poet is just too cute for words in that outfit. Hope your workshop was a huge success! (I am sure it was.) x
Funny how time away makes you appreciate the drudgery (maybe I need a weekend alone!!?) I always feel so appreciative of my little domestic sphere after having been away traveling! Lovely shots as always, and poet's overalls are just the most adorable ever!!
Oh Jodi, seeing that picture of Poet smelling roses is almost too much to handle! I know the feeling you explained about being without your children - sometimes I get overwhelmed thinking how busy things will undoubtedly be when we have not one but two children, yet I still know cuddled between them in bed will always be my favorite place to be as well :) No other feeling like it!
PS- cannot WAIT to hear about that workshop... I am so happy it all went over well x
These are beautiful photos of your children...I love the light in them and how they both are concentrating so intently and engaged in what they are doing. These are perfect and though I'm not participating in this series, I love seeing how everyone else has captured a moment with their children.
Poet's outfit is absolutely adorable. And I'm a sucker for stopping to smell the roses. This is by far my favorite picture. It took me all last summer to get a similar shot of my daughter- she just moves too fast!
Hello lovely lady, I love every single photo you post of your babes, however this week, I am speechless. Such pure beauty. I gasped when I saw them. Love B x
Absolutely beautiful photographs - both are stunning. I would love if you can point me in the right direction for a pair of those gorgeous shoes for my little girl!
I'm loving Poet's little shoes! I used to have a similar pair when I was little - I hated them because they were brown but I love them now! I'd love to find my girl a pair like that... Your portrait of Che is dreamy... Happy days to you Jodi.
It really was exquisite that day. One corner of the beach was still in half shade because of the cliff behind it. The light was so delicate, almost milky. Needless to say I ran towards it and encouraged the kids to follow. I could have posted so many portraits from that morning...x
i want to just sit and stare at these all day! each time i keep scrolling back up and see another exquisite detail. i am sure i've said it before...but i think these could be my favourite jodi.
poet's shoes...le sigh. the tights and bloomers are scrumptious too :)
Both great photos, they must be alot of fun to shoot, they are so cute! Love her little tights and shoes! The standard of photos is just amazing and I get so much inspiration from looking at them each week. (so much so I look at each and every one, each week, a bit ocd I guess :) Anyway, I started up a "Behind the Camera" monthly linkup, to encourage those of us always behind the camera to be in more everyday photos with their families. The next one is on the 17th May, the last one only had one linkup but so many people were interested in participating. I just hope it encourages at least a few people to capture a few more memories they may not otherwise have.
Anyway, just wanted to thank you again for this linkup, it has certainly made me pick up the camera more often and therefore learn so much more. My passion is photography and I now carry the camera around with me (almost) everywhere, because I have had times I was kicking myself that I didn't have it.
My absolute favourite portraits so far, Jodi. The light in Che's portrait is magical - upon the rocks, the water - it's soft, golden & glimmering. Sweet Poet looks so much like you in this portrait. She is growing up so fast!
Jodi. Firstly, thanks so much for featuring my portraits! Secondly, thank you for inspiring this project in the first place. I have enjoyed it so much!
Such beautiful photos Jodi. The sunlight, the moment of smelling roses. Just beautiful! To treasure child free time and then realise that you left what you enjoyed the most, is something that only a parent could understand! x
Poet is just the sweetest little toddler! I can't stop looking at her outfit - from head to toe! Glad that you got a little kid-free time. Sounds like it was lovely. x
Jodi I ADORE your photos from this week. Che just looks like something out of a fantasy movie, its like its been staged only I know it hasn't and it is so beautiful. And Poet, her outfit alone is enough to make me faint. I have little t-bar sandals for my Boy2 and I LOVE them. I really like the way you've chosen to submit portrait orientation shots this week, too. I've noticed you've tended to centralise your subject in a landscape orientation previously. I seriously love these shots. They are both going to end up on your wall, surely? x
Honored to see my little rainbow children linked here! This project has been such an inspiration to slow down and really see my beautiful babies. What a gift. Thank you!
so enamoured by this lovely portraits of your cute two (and the outfit and SHOES of poets) that I just burnt the meat and vegetable I was browning for a slow cooked curry : ( That will teach me for multitasking and coveting!!!!! But they are awesome. You mentioned a french online store but no link?

Still warm enough for paddling in NSW then? Brrr too cold here. Poet is gorgeous - I can't wait for our girls to help in our garden. Xx
Pleasure. Just this week the weather has turned chilly - last Sunday my boys swam quite happily in the ocean. Autumn is late around these parts x
DeleteWhat a precious capture of Poet. It looks as if she has the most gentle of hands (to the mama of one rough two year old boy, anyway!).
ReplyDeleteBeautiful light in Che's portrait.
x Laura
Gorgeous photos Jodi, the texture of the water and rocks lapping at Che's feet and Poet is a changeling if ever I've seen one xx

ReplyDeleteOh my! I LOVE poet's shoes. I mean I really, REALLY love them. Are they vintage? Love these photos too!
