summer : farewell

Oh summer, you've been exceptional.

Last year as we wandered into autumn we kind of felt like we'd been cheated. We'd had a wet, cool summer and there just weren't enough days spent in the sun. But this year made up for it. Regardless of the heatwaves, fires and most recent monsoon-like rains, we been spoilt with memorable beach days, lazy afternoons reading/napping and many an alfresco dinner. Sand has made its way into every crevice of our home and we've eaten copious amounts of mangoes, blueberries and peaches (and garden salads, woodfire pizzas, ice-cream).

Now the light is fading from golden to a softer, cooler yellow. Change is upon us...of the seasonal kind.

Thanks so much for following along with this seasonal series. I find it comforting to recognise the season, document  it and then reminisce. For those of you in the North; I know many of you have found photos of frolicking beach babies a little hard to bear but rest assured, spring is on its way. I look forward to scrolling through your abundant summer posts when I'm in the depths of winter.

There is always the opposite...

  4. You're right. When I read, "Now the light is fading from golden to a softer, cooler yellow. Change is upon us...of the seasonal kind," my first thought was spring is on its way. It is very hard to imagine on this cold and rainy day, but I know it's true.

You have a beautiful space here.

  7. Yes, I sit here in my darkened bedroom and distinctly feel the seasons changing. I am excited for autumn, there is something so special about it for me, my favourite season. Love that photo of Poet with the mess of light in her hair!

  8. Nature suprises us. You have amazing summer, we have winter. Today we had a glimmer of spring sunshine, but we were at home - my son is on the mend. Beatufiul pics. Che loves water.

  10. I thought it was amazing having a taste of summer during our winter! And Jodi, that second photo is by far my most favorite I've ever seen from you. It is perfectly, in an essence, Poet. (Your little ball of sunshine!) I've been trying to document the seasons but found it hard to pick up my camera at all with the seasonal blues - thank you for inspiring me to keep going! xx

  13. No! For some reason I was in blissful ignorance that summer was about to end until I read this post. I then looked down and saw the date and knew you were correct. I am just not ready for summer to end, we have had way too much rains/flooding in Brisbane, I would like to enjoy summer, umm just one more month?

  18. Oh no... I don't want summer to end. I don't feel like I've squeezed out enough beach time this year! So much rain and flooding at the end of January until now, it's been devoid of many beach days!
