clipper teas : zen again
When in doubt, drink tea.
I come from a long line of tea drinkers; English men and women who spend the better part of the day with a cup in hand. Tea is the drink that soothes and refreshes, it comforts and heals. For me, the whistling of the kettle, the choosing of the cup and the dipping of bag is a daily ritual.
I usually buy my tea from my local organic store where a floor-to-ceiling shelf offers an overwhelming range of herbal, caffeinated and sometimes questionable concoctions. I've always been drawn to Clipper Teas for their pretty packaging - oh yes, I really do judge tea by its box.
Luckily Clipper Teas make truly beautiful teas - natural, fair trade and delicious. When they contacted me and offered a collection of their teas I held my hand up high and said "Yes, please!"
I've been working my way through a range of herbal and fruit infusions whilst admiring the boxes lined up on the shelf. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting little reviews of my favourite flavours, starting today with....
zen again: perfect for the yogi (or the muma who can't seem to ever get to a yoga class) this organic brew is infused with lemongrass, nettle (a great cleansing herb), eucalyptus (a sweet Australian touch) and gingko (good for the memory). It is smooth and fresh and might I say, quiet. You'll want to close your eyes as you sip from your favourite cup.
Do you have a daily tea ritual?

looks pretty and sounds delicious, might put the kettle on...:) sarah
ReplyDeleteSadly, I just can't get into tea. I used to love it, living further south. These days, when the weather is hot most of the time, it just doesn't do it for me. That said, it's been a while since I've dabbled in the herbal ones. Maybe I'll have another go.
ReplyDeleteOh you must try some herbals...and you can drink them cold! Peppermint tea is lovely with ice and sliced apple. x
DeleteI am stuck on Clipper Sleep Easy tea for the evenings - so very delicious!
ReplyDeleteoh, that's my next review! x
DeleteI hope you like it as much as I do!! xx
DeleteI've seen this one in our local shop and wondered if it would be good for a baby that never sleeps?? x
DeleteIt has to be hot coffee in the morning, the stronger and darker the better--but as I work away thorugh the day, I love to sip a cup of green, mint, or lemon tea. I often let it cool, but always finish it...
ReplyDeleteZen Again sounds lovely - I can't wait to try it and see how the nettle and eucalyptus taste together. My present favourite is T2s Liquorice Legs which has liquorice, fennel and peppermint in it. I also grew up in a house were the kettle was always on - when in doubt drink tea! (Or when not in doubt.. when happy, melancholy, thoughtful, euphoric - just drink tea!
ReplyDeleteI have recently rekindled my relationship with tea - I too believe there's something in the ritual of it all that makes it an 'experience' rather than a beverage. I love picking out the tea/leaves, the pot and the cup, and then the spot where I will enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to future Clipper posts, Jodi!
x
What is their best energizer tea? Struggling to get through the day on just one coffee but I'd love to replace the second one with a tea.
ReplyDeletehow pretty! That tea box does seem good enough to judge it by its cover! I'm a simpleton when it comes to tea. I love twinnings Lady Grey and I don't think I'll budge! But I agree a good cuppa can solve alot! xx
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was the sort of woman who thought a cuppa solved all. She passed that onto my Dad, and now I find myself always with a cup of tea near by. Favourites are green tea, Red Raspberry Leaf, and Red Clover. Have never tried the brand Zen Again, but the packaging appeals.

i've always been drawn to their pretty packaging as well when browsing health food stores. tea huh life just wouldn't be the same without it!
ReplyDeleteI'm a tea drinker through and through. Each morning after I've had my daily piece of fruit for morning tea I boil the kettle and sit down to a cup of white tea, and a bikkie or two:) xx
ReplyDeleteI love Clipper teas! My favorite is the green loose leaf. There are so may more to try... Collecting the pretty boxes too. Can't wait your reviews!
ReplyDeleteI can't say I have tried clipper tea but I am a tea drinker through and through with the odd cup of coffee thrown in for good measure.
ReplyDeleteLately herbal has been my tea of choice..chamomile or spearmint.
x
Clipper's peppermint is the very best peppermint tea I've ever had. You must try it x
DeleteThanks to you, I too love Clipper teas.
ReplyDeleteI have the lemon one first thing in the morning.
Then a few hours later I have a coffee.
And then I might have another in the afternoon and I have chamomile before bed.
I honestly can't decide which one is my favourite.
I have made solar iced tea with them too...just put the bags in a clear glass or plastic jug, you can add orange or lemon or mint, put it out in the sun and wait for it brew...I swear you can taste the sunshine.
I think I might go and put the kettle on...
Yes! My daughter and I love our tea and almost never have one by ourselves - it's something we do together. I love coming home in the evening - I call out to her as I walk down the hallway, hello sweetpie, would you like tea. Yes, she calls back from her bedroom which is just past the kitchen. I put the kettle on - a battered old Le Creuset stove top kettle - make the tea - with lots of milk and go into her room where we sit and chat about our days. It's a ritual that has grown as she has. I love it so.
ReplyDeletethis sounds like the perfect mother/daughter bonding time. Oh how I hope to experience it with Poet some day x
DeleteHave you seen this tea advert? Beautiful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChxzFDi2nWg
ReplyDeleteI am drinking 'Holle' Organic Nursing Tea' for the breastfeeding Mumma.
ReplyDeleteDelicious for Mumma and for bubs.
And you are so right Jodie, it all in the cup you choose as well!
Enjoy your cuppa x
Am starting to embrace herbal teas and they are lovely...and so much better than my milky sugary tea with a biccie or three habit! Will have to try Clippers. The packaging alone is enough to have them on the kitchen shelf. Hope you have a lovely Wednesday.

i like the sound of a tea that has cleansing qualities ... i love a cup of tea just after lunch and herbal tea in bed at night whilst i catch up on reading (even though i usually only last one or two pages these days) x
ReplyDeleteI was a lover of coffee until I fell pregnant with Emerson and the smell was suddenly overpowering. The relationship has never been rekindled. Instead I started an affair with tea. Tea in the morning. Tea while I do the dishes. Tea with friends and family. I can't wait to get home on grocery shopping day and sit down to a cup of tea. I have my Mothers taste for dilmah, then peppermint before bed. :)
ReplyDeletei have green tea first thing, followed by nettle soon after breakfast, then dandelion around morning tea time. a cup of earl grey just after lunch which is maybe followed by another... then i switch back to herbal teas during the afternoon, peppermint, lemon verbena from the garden, perhaps a fennel or licorice or rosehip, maybe another nettle... i will usually always have a cup on the go but may drink them cold. after dinner i finish off my tea drinking day with camomile.
ReplyDeletetotally with you on the boxes... packaging is soooooo important!
Tea is my favorite drink, so relaxing. Love the packaging! Sadly, I don't know where I could find Clipper tea in Belgium :(
ReplyDeleteIt is rare that I have a conversation with my mom that doesn't involve tea.... with cream and sugar:) Lately, I've been turning to Earl Grey for the afternoon. It is a good excuse to stop during the work day. I'll need to check, but Im not sure that Clipper tea is in the U.S. Sometimes it is hard not to go with the prettiest box... that one is!
ReplyDeleteMmm, I love tea! My husband and I usually drink a cup after the littles go to bed.
ReplyDeleteMy relationship with tea is that we have heaps and heaps of it around our house, but I don't like the taste of it one bit. There's something very off in the taste.. it literally makes me gag. This upsets me so much! Tea is sort of the creme de la creme of natural health, don't you think? And we aren't one for just grabbing a pill from a bottle or anything. I'm constantly pushing tea on my husband or my mom for any ailments they might have. If Kyle has a stomach ache, I brew him a cup. If he's nervous, can't sleep, needs to feel refreshed and awake, is cold, etc. etc. I keep trying different types and blends hoping to find the one that I can easily stomach. I fear I'm just a coffee girl for life whether I'd like to be or not.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love that top photo. The contrast of the white cup and the rich dark wood. The slightest and most subtle natural vignette around it. And the angle of that beautiful round cup. The teabag slightly out of focus. I like that picture a lot.
My best,
Jo Farmer
yes, tea is the best. i especially love black cherry tea from celestial seasonings. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm shooting a video tonight of me teaching a yoga/Pilates style class and then sending said video into to be assessed. Hopefully assessed favorably so that I get certified to teach the class!! So . . . I'm feeling anxious and jittery and this post was just the thing I needed. I hear the water boiling as I type. Thank you. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma had a theory that where possible, it was best to brew loose leaf tea, as they could put "any old scrappy looking leaves in the paper tea bags". We are very big tea drinkers here; dinner preparations usually begin with making a pot of tea. Ever since my trip to India I have a soft spot for chai with fresh ginger, but I like rooibos and peppermint too. There's also a friend of a friend who hand blends the loveliest teas with beautiful names - our current favourites of hers are "love tea" and "man showing his heart to a peony" (that really is its name!).

After my classes are finished (I'm a second year university student) I go back to my room and start my tea kettle. Sometimes in the middle of class I'll find myself craving that mug of warmth and the calm that comes with it. Clipper's Early Grey is my particular favorite at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a tea drinker but, one time I tried hibiscus and it was surprisingly good. I recommend it : )
ReplyDeleteI love herbal teas. My ritual is at night, once kids are all sleep I pop the kettle on and make my husband & I a cup of chamomile tea (Planet organic) & relax before bed:)
ReplyDeleteJodi! Many advance apologies but I must write IN ALL CAPS B/C I AM OBSESSED WITH TEA, ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.
ReplyDeleteI began taking my now 6 yr old daughter to tea shops when she was 3. She loves anything fruity and herbal!
have you tried the Kusmi tea line? Oh you MUST if you haven't!!! Divine. I'm so wanting to try Bellocq teas, but haven't, as of yet. I'm hoping for a Christmas present from them! And have you heard of the book, 'The Vintage Tea Party Book' by Angel Adoree? I just did a post on it. It's WONDERFUL.
Oh how I love tea. ;)
I'm a huge tea drinker too.. several cups of different blends gets me through each day... green tea in the morning, English breakfast for morning and afternoon tea and peppermint or another herbal later in the day. I love the whole tea making ritual, the moment of pause you get to have while you wait for the water to boil and the pleasure of sipping it from a favourite cup :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Tea is such a uniting drink - we sell the clipper teas at my work too and I've always been drawn to the packaging... There's something so ritualistic about grabbing that cup and tea bag while still half asleep in the morning - it's almost gives you the subconcious encouragement you need for the day! The "keep calm and drink tea" is almost a mantra to live by! Lovely blog Jodi xx
